As we kick off the new season, we want to announce that starting October 5th, we’re discontinuing our video streams, and here’s why.

It was great offering this format to our residents; it added real value to the mixes and provided promotional tools for the artists. However, we felt a real disconnect between what we want to showcase and the kind of performance that being filmed tends to encourage.

We love radio because it creates a unique relationship with sound: you listen while doing other things; it engages the imagination rather than the eyes. Returning to audio-only means returning to what has always made Ola special: experimentation and making space for artists who are finding their footing, just starting out, or perhaps not entirely comfortable with their on-camera image—or even for friends who might feel too self-conscious to dance because of the camera.

When artists know they’re being filmed, it affects how they play; they start thinking about the image they’re projecting and what works visually. It naturally pushes the music toward a "club" style and forces a focus on technical precision. Yet, what we at the Ola team love is the artist who curates a unique selection—someone who might be shy but isn't afraid to use the mic, try new things, and explore directions where they won't be judged or watched. We love more delicate or experimental approaches, and by making this decision, we want to return to the freedom to experiment, fail, and explore.

Removing the visuals is an invitation for you to listen more closely, to feel free to dance, and to come visit the studio whenever you can to see artists perform in real life.

The 300 videos of artists who have performed over the past year and a half remain available on Ola’s YouTube channel under the "Live" tab. It’s a wonderful archive of everything we’ve shared together—we invite you to go take a look!
